Susceptibility Tests of Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci

Abstract

|
The 287 strains of enterococci isolated from clinical specimens were studied for susceptibility tests to vancomycin by agar dilution, broth dilution and disk diffusion methods.
The one strain of Enterococcus durans isolated from oral cavity of patient with acute myelogenous leukemia showed all resistance on three susceptibility methods. The five strains of Enterococcus faecium isolated from post-operative wound abscess,
extraventricular drainage catherter tip, bile and blood culture were moderately susceptible to vancomycin by agar dilution or broth microdilution methods, despite being susceptible by disk diffusion method.
These six strains of enterococci were moderarely susceptible to ampicillin and penicillin G by three susceptibility methods.
